The kids are doing really well. Malachi's enjoying school and is learning his letters, numbers, Spanish letters, swimming (on the days it's not raining), playing with play-doh (making numbers), eating snacks (that I pack, and ones from his friends), eating lunch, amongst other things. The last two days he's come home with an amazing amount of energy so I wonder if they've been putting the nap mats and blankets to good use. Either that or he's acclimated to the schedule. Wish I could say the same about myself. He made up a phrase "Holy Scheckmoes" his friends from school think it's really funny. I laugh when he says it.
Simon is also doing well. We had a fairly normal day today. He slept in this morning - we had to wake him at 7 to feed him before we left. He's up on his knees rocking, sometimes up on his hands, sometimes up on his elbows. Sometimes the front of his body isn't up at all. He's sitting really well now. Although grocery carts are still a challenge. He sometimes falls over onto his face. He's not a fan of that.
Johnathan (this is what he goes by at the Embassy, apparently it's becoming natural for me) is still working away. He often comes home with interesting, funny, and heart breaking stories about his interviews. Since we got here we've had a couple of American deaths (John's not dealing with those yet) and near deaths. It's always hard to hear stories like this. I don't envy the Officers doing American Citizen Services. John will do that before he leaves - he'll probably start next year some time. He went and saw Inception the other night with a friend. He says it's amazing. I'll see it some day.
I'm still trying to figure out school. I need to check with DBU (Dallas Baptist University) to figure out how many credits I can transfer in before I start at Ecclessia. If I get my butt moving I can probably start in September - probably not though. I'd have to register for that by the end of next week. Hm. I might be able to pull that off. I also need to fill out FAFSA but have had a hard time with that because I can't find our tax papers and figure out how much I made separately from John. My Spanish classes at the Embassy are going well. We're being taught a ton and I'm not remembering to study at home. I so need to do that.
I'm going out tonight to see a Ryan Reyolds film from 2008 with a friend (she saw Inception with her hubby two weeks ago). Why am I seeing a 2008 film? Because it's playing in the VIP theater (reclining leather seats with drink and food service in the theater - even a little button to call the attendants. It's not quite as awesome as the Love Sac theater in Dallas because there are no blankets. It's really close though.) and my girlfriend and I want to go out. Her hubby's away, and I'm burnt out.
I need to update photos on flickr and facebook. It's been a while, and I have plenty to add. We'll see when I actually get to that. Who knew that sending my child away for close to nine hours a day would actually make me busier than I was this summer. Well...all the school age moms did, but I didn't!

So much to blog so little time
Those of my readers who are in the Foreign Service know what we're going through right now. But to those who aren't that I promised I'd update my blog with what we're doing, I realize I've been breaking my promise. I hope I can update you guys enough right now to give you somewhat of an idea of what's going on.
We finally purchased the furnishings for Malachi's bathroom (very cute btw). John's been doing lots of research on where to buy a TV. He's looked at Target, Costco, and Micro Center. Our neighbor is going to take him to Costco one more time tomorrow, and I think he may be coming home with a TV in hand.
We went to our storage area and went through all of our stuff designating our things in two categories: staying in storage and going to Costa Rica. We have been going through our apartment organizing our things into five different categories: throw away, give away, suitcases, UAB (Unaccompanied Air Baggage 700 lbs), and HHE (Household Effects 7,200 lbs). We have a big area in our living room that is devoted to HHE, and a smaller area devoted to UAB. We also have a corner in Malachi's room devoted to HHE because the area in the living room isn't big enough.
Everything we have in the apartment came UAB (at that time it was only 600 lbs for us - Simon added another 100 lbs) from Dallas or we acquired after coming. While looking at everything we have, I realized that we acquired A LOT of stuff (having a baby will do that to ya).
It's interesting and not easy to go through your things to decide what you can live with out for two - four weeks and one - three months and what you can't live with out. All of the packable food items will be in our UAB as well as the utensils and what not from the kitchen. We might be packing our computer in that as well. I've set aside a few games for adults as well as for kids and some activity books for Malachi, our tennis gear, pool gear, sewing kit, etc. We'll send what ever clothes we don't pack in suitcases in UAB as well. Everything else is going HHE.
We pack out soon, and shortly after that send off our car and very shortly after that leave for vacation. I'm very, very excited.
In other news I haven't heard from the school I applied to yet. I've emailed them asking the status of my application. I really expected to have heard by now if I've been accepted.
Simon is growing quickly, too quickly I think. He'll be out of 0-3 month clothing soon and is developing in other areas. He will hold your gaze for quite a while and smile real big at you, he bats his hands at things, he holds onto my fingers quite tightly and for a lengthy period while I feed him, he purposely coos while smiling at you, he eats a 4 oz bottle every 3 1/2 - 5 hours, sometimes going as many as 7 hours at night which is a big blessing for mommy and daddy.
Malachi is excitedly awaiting our move. His room is being torn apart so unfortunately he can't play with everything the way he would before, but is being very good about not playing with the stuff we have set aside. He's been a big help with the organization when we ask him to help. He's played with and said good bye to his friends.
I went to my last mom's group meeting on Monday and we went to our last church service the week before Easter. We would've gone to Easter service but Malachi had a fever on Saturday and his cough was still pretty bad on Sunday so we decided to stay home. If I had been a parent and heard someone that sounded like Malachi in the Sunday school I'd be really upset. Malachi's well now, his cough is gone, and that was the last thing to go.
John's preparing to take us to Costa Rica. He's got a few more things to do at work before we take off. He's very, very excited. I think he's most excited to actually start working. He's had the job for almost 10 months and hasn't done any "real" work yet, he's quite eager to start.
Last night we had a Costa Rica BBQ at our complex. There are two more couples that are going down in May or June, and two more FSO's coming down later this year. We also met another FSO who's going to be joining the family next summer after she serves a year in DC. By the time she gets there everyone in the consular section at the embassy will have cycled out. We'll be the oldies there by then (only in that section mind you).
I hope this has been informational enough for everyone. I apologize for the blog silence. Please know I'm not doing it on purpose.

Holy Cow! Is it really the last day of 2009? That's totally crazy! The last 10 years have held a lot for me. I'm going to make a condensed list so as to not write a novella.
2000:
High School Graduation
Live in Costa Rica for three months
2001:
Get engaged
Buy a house
Get married
Travel to Bahamas for honeymoon
2002:
Hubby and I Turn 21
Decide to move to TX - try to sell house - fail
2003:
Decide to go to Bible School
Apply for Christ for the Nations
Get accepted at Christ for the Nations
Try to sell house - succeed
Start 1st semester at CFNI
Go to Mexico with friends and family
2004:
Continue at school and work in Dallas
2005:
Find out six days before graduating from CFNI that we're pregnant with Malachi!
Finish CFNI and graduate in May
Go to Europe with John's family (and Malachi in the belly) for two weeks
Start attending best church ever: Fellowship of Joy (FOJ)
Continue working at hotel until even on the day I go into the hospital
Go to the hospital at 33 weeks and 5 days for a potential issue that proves to be true. Diagnosed with PPROM.
Induced at 35 weeks and 2 days
Give birth to a wonderful baby boy on Nov. 23 2005. 5 lbs 5 oz. 18 inches long. Name him Malachi David Roy meaning: the beloved messenger of the King.
Leave the hospital two days later
Bring Malachi home 12 days after that

Malachi has three more seizures. Last one lands him in the hospital - perscribed Keppra - hasn't had a seizure since 7/8/09!!!!
John goes through Orientation and gets posted to Chengdu China
Goes through training for his job
Malachi's medical clearance is downgraded because of the seizures - pulled from Chengdu
John starts Spanish until we find out next posting
We take long weekends and go to Baltimore, MD and Virginia Beach, VA

Pregnancy has a couple of hiccups, but they turn out to be nothing.
John's parents and brother, and sister-in-law come over for Thanksgiving. We all have a nice holiday together.
John, Sara and Malachi have a wonderful Christmas in DC with friends.
That is quite a decade! I'm so thankful about everything that's happened. I know that God has been directing my life to lead exactly where I am. 2010 has great promise with amazing things I already know will happen: have baby, move to Costa Rica, e.g. And things I can't even imagine that will happen. I can't wait to see how the year goes.
I hope everyone had a great holiday season, what ever you celebrate. Blessings!
